THE HOPE THAT JESUS OFFERS

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

The gospel is the very Good News that through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus has accomplished God’s promised rescue of humanity, and has opened the way for us to be reconciled to God.

Because of what Jesus has done…

  • Rather than living a life of guilt, shame, and fear.

  • As redeemed and beloved children of God, rather than striving to earn the approval and respect of others to give us a sense of our identity.

  • From the web of lies and rebellion that tell us we are the center of all things, rather than that we were meant to be in a relationship with the God of the universe.

  • To a life of purpose that connects us to each other, benefits our neighbors, and brings meaning to our lives.

  • The One who has saved us.

THE BIBLE HELPS US UNDERSTAND OURSELVES

The hard truth is that all of humanity is separated from God because of sin (our rebellion against God, expressed through all the thoughts, words, and deeds that flow from that).

Because He is a God of perfect justice, sin must be dealt with – it deserves punishment.

The wondrous good news is that God so loved the world, that He would not leave us in the condition of eternal punishment and separation from Him.

Instead, God sent His son, Jesus, to receive the punishment we deserved, so that we could be fully forgiven by God and restored to new life.

When we repent and believe – that is, turn from our sins and turn to God, trusting that on the cross Jesus has fully paid my debt – we are reconciled to God.

The gospel changes everything.
